    • Most churches have gargoyles at strategic places on the roof line – their original purpose was to provide an outlet for the rainwater off the roof.
      The other thing, which tends to be next to windows are little stone busts – some seem to be of specific people, Royals, or other dignitaries I presume.

  1. Those are not nightmares… they are there to scare away the evil spirits! We have a grand set on our Washington Cathedral on this side of the pond. I love them…have a couple for pets! 🙂

  2. Yes! I love those beasties! But indeed, before I saw snowbirdpress’ comment I was going to say exactly the same thing. Somebody should put a Rennie between his teeth… Too many bad spirits not good for gargoyles? And we do have a lot of those lately – I agree… 🙂
