Only minutes before, my wife and I had rescued two lost yellow plastic ducks, trapped in a side eddy at the head of some rapids on a upland river. Each bearing a number on the bottom, we launched them into the mainstream and watched them disappear downstream – presumably to join their fellow wanderers somewhere in the distance….. though how far and how long behind they would be following was anybody’s guess.
There’s a good reason for that – it’s beautiful.
