Seen at one of the most recent churches I’ve visited. I suppose there must be so many lit candles at times, it’s wise to take precautions – especially when if youngsters and cassocks are involved in processions.

Well, I’ve made a note to check out the churches in Venice, next time I’m there. I wonder if I’ll find fire extinguishers in any of them?
…weeell… as Italy is in the EU… it’s likely they will have some provision for fire and very likely you will find a notice of insurance/liability – all the good stuff our society seems to crave nowadays.
And right next to a wooden chair too. So you can start it and put it out immediately. I mean where’s the fun in that? It can only be a H&S requirement. I’m sure the vicar must have a policies and procedures manual somewhere.
I hope the chair doesn’t catch fire while said warden is sitting on it!
Everywhere you look there are policies and signs and stuff – our generation will be known as the ‘Signers’.
Brings to mind that Christmas candle light procession when my youngest daughter singed the hair of her older sister while walking behind her. She was so afraid to tell anyone!
Perhaps some validity in the idea after all!
