It’s associated with mining activities – not sure whether,in this case, it’s used to haul directly up a mine shaft or laden wagons along a track. I’ve encountered similar elsewhere in the UK and I seem to recall seeing one in Ireland too. I believe similar contraptions have been powered by men/horses/oxen.
Well they went to work knowing what was expected of them, priorities didn’t keep changing, their day was mapped out and it was unlikely a new manager would want to break what was working in favour of some new management technique they’d seen! 😉
Well, of course you can see it that way looking at our changing world. But someone must have tried something new some time or they’d still be turning in circles… 😉
