This portrait was taken at night using torchlight/flashlight. Whilst I believe it is a Red-eyed Stream Frog, I’m happy to be corrected on this. There seem to be alternative Latin names – Duellmanohyla uranochroa or Duellmanohyla rufioculis – maybe they are different animals?

(If this is not, let me know!)

Tut! Someone was here before me!

Spider Monkeys are one of four species of monkey in Costa Rica. We saw a few troops during our stay – trying to get a decent photograph of them was an exercise more difficult than I imagined it would be. Their speed through the canopy, the infuriating habit of my auto-focus to grab anything but focus on the subject and the relatively low light levels didn’t help in this regard.

Another from Costa Rica. This little frog was tucked in the undergrowth by the side of a formal footpath through a rain forest.

A male Cyanerpes cyaneus.

Zenaida asiatica.

We saw a fair number of these Tiger-Herons. This one was standing in a tree, quite some way from water. It allowed me to get relatively close – had this been a UK equivalent it would have flown as soon as it saw me approach.
