Ouch – that’s some piercing!

Like something out of a science fiction movie, the tree is gradually ‘consuming’ the fence.

In the second image the tree has grown round the fence rails completely.  What I found particularly interesting was the fact that the square rail seems to have had little effect on the growth of the tree, but the round rail has caused a callous similar to the growth of a branch (both side of the tree are similar).

(By the way, the rails really do go through the tree, there is no trickery here).
